UPDATE: I have deleted my account. On principles alone, I am not a Slytherin. I believe in workers rights, free speech, equal rights, feminism. I'm horrified at the racism and the need for power exhibited by Slytherins in the book. I don't like the house or its moral values. And, yes, I have traits the house prizes BUT I don't prize these traits in myself. I understand why I have them, but I don't believe they are GOOD traits. Therefore, I got rid of my account. Sooner or later, I'll rejoin the site, but right now I'm feeling burned by that Sorting Hat. (And, yes, that is how strongly I feel about it. I don't care if it's silly. It does matter to me. I might be a lazy feminist, but I am one. It's like the Sorting Hat said "oh you have interest in moneyed people, therefore you must be share the same politics as Dick Cheney." Yes, I like moneyed people, but they tend to be LIBERAL moneyed people who worked to make art and literature accessible to everyone, and who care that those less fortunate than them have liberty and rights as well. IT DOES MATTER even if it is just a fictional house from a fictional book about fictional people.)

The sorting hat placed me in Slytherin! I LOATHE the Slytherin House. I don't care if Severus Snape was a true hero. I don't care that they aren't all bad or corrupt, I hate that house. And that lame ass quiz placed me there! I AM A RAVENCLAW!

Now, I had read the sorting was silly, but I had no idea just how silly. That questionaire, that, actually determined people. No wonder there was so much outrage when the beta process was going on. Such simplistic questions and not that many. It's ridiculous!

At any rate, I need to process my feelings about this.

On the upside, the site is definitely overrated. I also understand why people complain about it. If this is what it's like now, I can only imagine what the beta was like.

But Ugh. Very pissed!

I suppose I can understand why I'm there. I do have my cunning, manipulative, and selfish sides. But they are sides I am trying to overcome. And I would like to think my good qualities (actually caring about house elves being treated fairly for example) far outweigh the negatives (WHY WHEN I DON'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT POPULARITY OR POWER AM I PLACED IN A HOUSE WHERE THAT IS ALL PEOPLE CARE ABOUT???????)

I joined Pottermore yesterday and I don't see what all the fuss is about. I thought it would be better, apparently it's not as good as I thought it was.

As for Slytherin House, I hate that house as well. I also get angry when people who claim to be "good" state they prefer Slytherin because it's mysterious... What's so mysterious about a house that was founded by one of the most evil wizards of his time and a racist at that? Not to mention that hardly anyone good ever got placed in that house with the exception of Severus Snape, the rest of them were just weasels and scoundrels.

On another forum, a person was like "you should be happy and proud of the house you were placed in." But then was like "I'm a Ravenclaw and that's the house I wanted to be in." I found myself thinking "Bitch, really. You got in the house you wanted to be in and you're going to preach to me about how I should be happy with Slytherin." Ugh!

Yeah, if JKR wanted us to think more....greyly...about the Slytherins, she wouldn't have spend ALL seven books telling us just how awful the 99% of the house is. Of course, I don't think Gryffindor is as flawless and as perfect as JKR makes it out to be, but it doesn't have the problems that Slytherin does.

Agreed Pottermore isn't that great. It seems more like a gaming site than a HP encyclopedia. It's nowhere near as awesome as the index/epilogue that JRR Tolkien added to the LOTR books. What particularly drives me nuts is that JKR says several times on the site and elswhere "oh, I have all this extra material that never made it into the books" BUT WHERE IT IS? Cuz it sure isn't on that site, even though she said that was the purpose of Pottermore.

I hate to say it, but my respect for JKR has gone WAY down after seeing what Pottermore is. I feel she's just using Pottermore to string fans along rather than give them actual substance.

It took JRRT years to write the epilogue with the tons of back stories, but when he delivered, he delivered. She's makes a big deal out having so much she's going to give us, but then just repackages crumbs. (And she did the same thing with DH. She said she was really going to wrap up the ending because it was the final book, and we definitely know what happened to the characters. And, instead, she backtracks--and publicly admits she backtracked--because she's feeling sentimental and gooey, then geesh, reward the fans for our loyalty and tell us what happened to the characters post-Voldemort.)

I agree with you on all of your points. I no longer have respect for J.K. Rowling either.

When I first logged into Pottermore, the first thing that came to mind was that it IS a gaming site. In my opinion, that website is completely useless. I thought the website was going to be professional and updated frequently.

As for The Deathly Hallows, I agree wholeheartedly.

Thanks. :D

Didn't mean to rant on about it as much as I did. But I guess I was still sore. If I rejoin, I'll add you on there. (No interest in rejoining right now though.)

BTW: I've seen your rants on the Narnia movies and I completely agree. I don't know what's worse: that CS Lewis is dead and has no control over how his books were slaughtered for screen or the JKR is and doesn't care because she's in it for the money now. Both fandoms got screwed at any rate.
